Frequently Asked Questions

(Everything you need to know before you start to boogie with your baby!)

1. What is a babywearing dance class?

It’s a gentle, fun dance session designed for caregivers to enjoy movement while keeping their baby close in a secure baby carrier. Think light cardio, feel-good music, and a welcoming community—no dance experience required!

2. What are the benefits for me and my baby?

Plus, it’s just plain joyful!

3. What age range is it suitable for? / When can I start?

Most babies from 8 weeks (postpartum clearance required) to about 2 years old can join, as long as they’re comfortable in a carrier and you are comfortable carrying them. Please ensure you have had your postpartum 6-12 week check and been given the all clear to exercise. If you have had a C-section we recommend waiting until 12weeks postpartum before joining.

4. Do I need my own baby carrier?

Yes, but I do have some available to borrow. If you’re new to babywearing, I can guide you on safe carrier options. A woven / structured carrier is usually best for dance sessions. Stretchy wraps are not recommended as the stretch means baby may not be as secure during increased movement. I do have some carriers available to borrow - please get in touch if you would like to use one so that I can ensure it is suitable for the age and size of your baby and put one aside for you.

We spend the first few minutes of each class making sure everyone is comfortable and babies are safe and secure in the carriers. I'm a trained sling peer supporter, so I can advise you on safe babywearing and help you find the most comfortable position for you and baby.

If you're thinking of buying a carrier I'd highly recommend booking a session with our local sling consultant Beth at Snugglebugs Dorset. You can try on different carriers and hire one to test out and try before you buy. Carriers are a bit like jeans, all of our bodies are unique (and maybe different to your 'normal' when you are postpartum), so it's hard to know which one you'll find comfortable without trying a few on.

5. What should I and my baby wear?

Comfortable clothing you can move in, plus supportive trainers (or dance barefoot if you prefer). I'd recommend dressing baby in just one layer - the carrier counts as a layer, plus they have your body heat, so one thin layer is usually plenty for them during the class.

Bring a water bottle and anything you need for baby.

6. Do I need dance experience?

Not at all! Our classes are beginner-friendly, with simple steps you can follow at your own pace. It’s about connection and movement, not perfect choreography. I'm a sleep-deprived mummy with baby brain myself, so I know first hand that trying to remember complicated sequences is not what it's about! Please don't let fear of getting it wrong stop you from coming. I want this to be aspace where you can just boogie with your baby and enjoy the opportunity to relax, have some fun and connect with them and other parents, the dance steps are the least important part.

7. How do you ensure safety?

8. Can I feed or change my baby during class?

Of course. These babies don't understand our schedules! This is your time, use it however you and baby need. You can step aside to feed, soothe, or change your baby whenever you need.

9. How long is each class?

Classes run for 45 minutes, including a gentle warm-up, easy dance routines, and a cool-down stretch.

After class there is some time to stay and chat, get to know each other and take care of baby's needs before you head off.

10. Is there parking?

Thursdays @ Amethyst Cave - the closes car park is Woodside Road car park, which is a short walk from the studio. There is also some on street parking available near by.

Fridays @ Atorro Sports - there is plenty of free parking on site.

11. How do I book a class?

Book your class via Happity here

We recommend reserving your spot in advance, as class sizes are kept small for safety and comfort. We don't currently allow drop-ins due to space restrictions and ensuring everyone gets the support and attention they need. However if it's a last minute you can book on the morning or drop us a message to check space on 07787428714.

12. What if my baby gets fussy or cries?

It’s completely normal! We’re a judgment-free zone, and all babies have their moments. You can step out, soothe, or simply sway along until they settle. You can feed or change baby at any point, just do what works for you and your little one.

13. Can I attend if I’m pregnant?

Yes, if your GP / Midwife gives the green light. You can join and follow the movement at a comfortable intensity - bonus is you have your own in-built baby carrier!

If you have an older child you'd like to carry while pregnant that may be possible too but we'd recommend having a specialist 1-1 appointment with a sling consultant to ensure you have a carrying position that is safe and comfortable for you, your child and the baby.
